If, like me, you’re obsessed with cloud production, and all things flavour, a decent box mod is a must have. There is a drawback though - the weight. It’s obvious really. Higher power requires a larger energy source and bigger hardware - which equals more weight.
But, with the current post-TPD trend of small tanks and boxes to match, how do manufacturers of 200w plus mods keep their hand in the market? By investing time, and money, into the composition and material structure of their mods.
Cue Tesla’s latest arrival - the WYE 200w Box Mod.
Made from Polycarbonate/Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene, a lightweight plastic composition, the WYE is not only significantly lighter but also far more durable owing to the properties of PC/ABS. As this is a thermoplastic it means it is incredibly resistant to heat as well. If you’re wondering how light the mod is compared to the competition, the WYE weighs in at 65 grams whereas the Limitless Arms Race (a similar dual battery 200w box) lumbers in at a whopping 300 grams.
Those of you impressed by the weight-saving initiative that Tesla has embarked upon may be concerned that this will restricts the scope of features and settings. Fear not fair Vaper – the WYE still packs in all the technology that’s made Tesla so popular amongst both rookies and veterans.
The Output Mode can be switched between the KA/TC-SS316/TC-Ni200/TC-Ti modes depending on your wire type. However, what is worth paying attention to, is the TCR
Mode: coveted as the last word in accuracy when it comes to Temperature Control. It stands for Temperature Coefficient of Resistance which, simply put, is the scale of numbers that describe the change in resistance to coils as they are heated and cooled – this is for experts only but is a cool feature nonetheless.
Next, we have Taste Mode. No rookie, this doesn’t mean you can load more than one liquid and switch between them (you may think this is fabrication on my part but I genuinely heard this explained to someone at a recent event). In fact, Taste Mode, allows you to retain a set wattage but control the current that runs through, simply put: ‘Soft Mode’ means a lower current and smoother vape while ‘Hard Mode’ means a mighty throat hit and eye-watering levels of flavour.
Finally, perhaps my favourite customisable setting of all, is Memory marked as ‘M’ on the Tesla’s OLED screen. Say you have spent the best part of an hour setting everything from wattage to taste and output for your set atomizer and then want to switch to something else. Rather than lose all customisations you are, in fact, able to save each via the Memory Mode giving you three customisable pre-sets and thus allowing you to switch flawlessly betwaeen tank, dripper and RDTA at the push of a button.
I’m impressed to say the least. Tesla have created a mod with bold aesthetic stylings, courtesy of the paint splatter and Tesla branding. It’s lightweight and contains a slew of modes and features that you really only expect to find in higher end regulated devices.
Oh, and if you’re still not impressed (if that’s even possible), did I tell you that the Tesla is one of the first mods to allow safe and even in-mod charging for your batteries? Oh yes my friend, providing you allow time for a full charge, the WYE will charge your batteries to 4.2v before discharging to 4.1v and then rebalancing to 4.2 V cyclically to avoid overcharging.
